As the year winds down, life always seems to get a little hectic. Maybe it’s just me, but between meeting year-end work deadlines, keeping up a social life, traveling for the holidays, making time for relationships, and somehow finding time for self-care—both physically and mentally—it can feel like a lot to manage.
This year is no exception. My 9-to-5 is ramping up with 2025 planning in full swing, and year-end close creeping up on me. It’s harder than ever to truly disconnect and make time for myself. By the end of each day, I feel drained and burnt out, and I’ve noticed myself drifting away from the routines and habits that keep me grounded and energized.
I know this pace isn’t sustainable, and I suspect I’m not alone in feeling this burnout—especially during this busy season. So, this week, I decided to shift my focus and get back into alignment with the things that truly make me feel like my best self.
This morning, I started the day off with a 3-mile run, and I’d forgotten how much I missed it. The crisp air, the quiet—it brought me instant mental clarity and gave me the energy boost I needed. I felt so motivated after I ended up knocking out a pilates workout, leaving me feeling even more grounded and inspired. I took a step back, having a slow morning to myself by prioritizing me and I instantly felt that shift of feeling more aligned than I had days prior.
As humans, we forget to pause and reconnect with the routines that make us feel our best. Life gets busy, and those habits and routines get away from us. We’re so immersed in hustle culture that sometimes we overlook what truly matters—our mental and physical well-being. I always remind myself that if I’m not prioritizing myself and my habits I can’t fully show up for the people in my life. I won’t be able to think creatively at work or on social media when I don’t leave space for myself to think. I can’t be the friend or girlfriend I want to be if I’m always on edge. It all comes back to realigning with what makes us feel our best.
Next time when you’re feeling burnt out or weighed down by endless to-do lists, take a morning just for you. Start with a workout that excites you, and gets you motivated again. Make your morning routine feel special—maybe with an extra-long skincare ritual or a visit to your favorite coffee shop. A little time for yourself can bring a sense of relief and ignite that spark again.
Remember, these times are temporary. Things will slow down, and when they do, you’ll appreciate every moment with friends and family even more. You’ll feel the value in the work you’re doing because of how much is being asked of you. And those quiet moments you make for yourself will become even more sacred.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend! Enjoy the crisp air, maybe cozy up with a Christmas movie and some hot chocolate, and most importantly, take some time just for you.
