As I was creating my 2025 vision board, I came across a quote that truly resonated with me. It served as a powerful reminder of the importance of discipline and consistency when it comes to achieving our goals. Too often, we set ambitious goals for ourselves but either forget about them or let them fall by the wayside over time. The truth is, waking up every day and choosing to take actions that move us closer to our aspirations isn’t always the easiest path, but it’s undeniably the most essential one for growth and success.
Life constantly presents us with a choice: to settle for what’s easy and convenient in the moment or to strive for what we truly want, even if it takes longer to achieve. For example, skipping the gym to stay cozy in bed might feel good in the moment, but getting up early, putting on your gym clothes, and committing to that workout is what ultimately brings you closer to your fitness goals. This principle applies to every area of life, whether it’s career opportunities, personal relationships, or other aspirations.
I wholeheartedly believe that good things take time. Just because something isn’t happening exactly when you want it to doesn’t mean you should settle for less than what you truly desire. Settling often leads to a life that’s less fulfilling and less aligned with your dreams. I’ve experienced this firsthand.
When I was searching for a new job before landing my role at Starbucks HQ, it was a long and often frustrating journey. It took me a year of interviews, rejections, and even turning down offers to stay true to the vision I had for my career and life. I could have easily accepted the first opportunity that came my way, but it wouldn’t have aligned with my long-term goals. I wanted to live in a specific city and be closer to my sister—a promise I’d made to myself.
By holding out and staying disciplined, I eventually landed a job at a company I loved, with the salary I wanted, and the flexibility to live where I wanted. That year of persistence and patience paid off, and I’m so glad I didn’t settle. It was a powerful lesson in the value of keeping promises to yourself and trusting the process, even when it’s challenging.
It’s important to remember that this mindset applies not only to professional life and career but also to relationships. Often, people settle for relationships that don’t align with their long-term desires. In moments of loneliness, it can feel easier to jump into something readily available rather than wait for what truly resonates. However, taking time for self-growth and personal development is crucial to attracting the kind of partner who aligns with one’s vision and values.
This process takes time, but there’s often a deeper reason why the envisioned qualities in a partner haven’t fully materialized: self-work is still underway. Personal growth isn’t just about achieving goals—it’s about becoming aligned with the life and relationships one truly desires. By focusing on becoming the best version of oneself, it ensures readiness to embrace the right relationship with confidence and clarity when it arrives.
Here are a few tips to help you stay committed to the promises you’ve made to yourself:
Create a Vision Board: Design a vision board that reflects how you want your year to unfold. Keep it top of mind by printing it out or setting it as your phone’s background, so it serves as a daily reminder of what you’re working toward.
Set Clear Goals: For career or personal aspirations, write out a detailed list of what you want to achieve. Having a clear roadmap can help you stay focused and motivated.
Define Your Ideal Partner: If you’re manifesting a future relationship, make a list of qualities that matter most to you in a partner. When meeting someone new, reflect on whether they align with the values and traits on your list.
As we head into 2025, I encourage you to take some time to reflect on your goals and the habits that will help you achieve them. Remember, discipline is about choosing what you want most over what you want now. Trust that your hard work, patience, and dedication will pay off in the long run. Your future self will thank you for staying committed to the life you truly want to create.
